First VW recalls begin in January, although no fix date for UK
Volkswagen has been outlining its plans to implement the fixes needs for the 1.6- and 2.0-litre diesel versions of its EA189 engines. We know that the 1.6 version will need to have changes made to its hardware and software, whereas the 2.0-litre only requires a software update.
We do know that the recall process is to start in January, but only in Germany, although we suspect that the UK will not be too far behind.
The new piece of hardware needed for the 1.6 TDI is a piece of mesh called a “flow transformer” that is to be placed in front of the air mass sensor. It is said that this new part will help to calm “the swirled air flow in front of the air mass sensor, and therefore improve the measuring accuracy if said component.
