Hyundai problems

Hyundai started making cars back in 1967, although had a few other interests as well. Today the company has a manufacturing facility that can produce around 1.6 million vehicles annually, which we have to say is pretty impressive. To give you an idea of the size of Hyundai, they currently employ about 75,000 people.

Hyundai problems

What we did not know was the fact that Hyundai vehicles are sold in 193 countries and has 6,000 dealerships throughout those countries. The South Korean carmaker has a decent range of models for the UK market, which consists of the i10, i20, ix20, i30, i35, i40, Genesis, Santa Fe and the i800, amongst others.

It’s been a while since Hyundai had to issue a recall for one of its models in the UK, which we have to say is a good thing. However, the same cannot be said for the number of problems owners report with their vehicles, and so we invite you to share your Hyundai issues below.

I have just bought myself a 2009 i10 and no longer starts, I can see this is a common issue, so what can I do to get the car running once again?

  • Albert

The LCD on the info-tainment system is no longer working in my Hyundai Genesis, is this an easy fix, or am I looking at a huge bill?

  • Jasmine

For some reason moisture is getting into the headlights of my 2013 Hyundai Accent; sure this comes under warrenty?

  • Max

The stop/start button is no longer working on my 2010 Hyundai, is this something i could fix myself or is it a case of spending a small fortune and taking it to the dealer?

  • Jenny

There seems to be an intermittent noise on my Hyundai Santa Fe, although it only happens when the car has been sued a lot during the day. It is for this very reason why the garage has been unable to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. The best way to describe the sound is like a rubbing high pitched noise.

  • Mike

I’ve been having issues with the clutch on my 2009 Hyundai Tucson for a while now. There were times when I was not able to get it into gear, although this did not happen all the time. However, I can no longer get it in gear; does this sound as though it is an issue with the master cylinder?

  • Maureen

My 2005 Hyundai Matrix has developed a loud squealing noise when the car is slowing, and also when starting to speed up again. This means the noise happens even if the brakes are not applied.

  • Amy

My 1998 Hyundai Accent just failed its MOT on the emissions, but did not offer any explanation, only that they would aim to resolve the issue and do a partial re-test. Is there a simple way to find out what is causing this, as I feel it would be a simple job and so cheap for me to do it myself?

  • Carl

There is a strange clicking noise each time I turn right in my 2003 Hyundai Coupe. This happens even when I only move the steering slightly to go right, although there is no such noise while traveling in reverse.

  • Del

Around 30 per cent of the time my 2004 Hyundai Coupe will cut out, which happens shortly after the car has been started and the revs drop very low, and then just cuts out. However, things have now got much worse, as it now takes several attempts for the car to start, although when it does after 20 seconds the thing dies on me again.

If I do manage to keep the revs up, the car will drive perfectly fine, so what could cause such an issue?

  • Mo

The indicators on my Hyundai Terracan are not working, as are the hazards. The fuses are fine, and what confuses me is the fact they do flash when I lock and unlock the car with the key fob. What I also find strange is the fact the car has just had its MOT and service, so how can something like this happen so quickly after?

  • Gregg

I am still able to change gears fine on my 2000 Hyundai Accent, although I did hear a snapping noise and there now seems to be too much play in the gear stick. I was just wondering what could have snapped and is it an job that I could easily fix myself?

  • Julie

How come there is a strange ticking sound from my Hyundai Eleantra? It started off slow but has got progressively worse to the point where it is very loud. I have checked to make certain the engine is topped up with oil, but that is fine.

  • Shaun

The front and rear bumpers on my 2006 Hyundai Getz are looking a bit weather beaten and also have a few cracks on them. I now want to replace them, but I am having an issue locating new ones because I do not know the correct part number. Does anyone know how I can find this part number?

  • Meryl

My 2004 Hyundai Terracan has an issue with its indicator & hazard lights, as they are no longer working. I have made certain the fuses are ok, which they are, and so now at a loss as to what it could be. However, what is strange, is that these lights do flash when locking and unlocking the car.

  • Jason

I am no longer able to change gear in my 2008 Hyundai Tuscon, but I think it could be clutch release, although not sure how to test this out. Also, the car does seem to lack power, which also makes me thin it is down to the clutch.

  • Hayley

When there is a small frost in the mornings a yellow cream appears in the expansion tank of my 2000 Hyundai Coupe. However, there is no sign of water on the dipstick, and that substance does go once the engine has warmed up. do you think this could be caused by condensation, or is it a head gasket issue?

  • Tina

At first my Hyundai Getz started to become sluggish while driving, and then the check engine warning light came on, and also has started to judder. However, after driving the car for sound 10 – 15 minutes all of the issues go away, even the light and the car starts to drive morally again. what could it be?

  • Tina

I’m starting to loose my patience with my Hyundai Elantra, as there is a constant ticking while driving. I thought the oil was getting too thin, and so did an oil change, but the noise is still there – please help.

  • Paul

There are times when I drive my Hyundai Accent that when I touch my brake pedal it will shudder, and it some cases vibrate as well. However, when I take my foot off the pedal and the back on it seems fine once again. However, give it another 5 minutes and it starts to happen once again. Does anyone have any ideas please?

  • Kayley

I have an issue with the clutch on my Hyundai i20, as it has only done around 5,000 miles and the clutch has gone already. I have been told it is down to wear and tear, but the car has low milage and only 5 years old, so I feel the dealer is feeding me a load of rubbish. I am not a boy racer, and so am confused how such a thing could happen?

  • Steve Shaw

Hi everyone & especially Kayley. The clutch on My car is faulty, Hyundai say it’s wear & tear or driver error, Yes Kayley the dealer is making excuses. The problem is, the car is only covered for two years on the clutch & many other major parts also. The little things that you can afford to buy if anything goes wrong are covered for 5 years. I have spent the last two weeks arguing the point that a clutch shouldn’t break after a few thousand miles. Infact a mechanic said it should last at least 60,000 miles. Was he right in saying that? The car My Wife drives is the i20 model, we bought the car 2nd hand from an Hyundai Dealer, with 15,000 miles on the clock. Only drove 3,000 miles & the clutch is slipping? BBC Watchdog have even helped a lady out with this problem. I am livid that I bought my Wife a car that should of been reliable just like her last Hyundai & bought it her on the strength of how reliable her old car was. How wrong was i :( I can’t make them understand, they are pure ignorant about the problem with the car so I have made a group up on Facebook called ” It’s no joke when your Hyundai is broke” pardon the pun. I want the general public to know about Hyundai problems as forcing this issue to the media could help us all. Please add yourselves to the group & lets sort these crooks out, once & for all. I’ve only started the group today & hope it will grow so we can voice our opinions! We all worked hard to pay for what we thought was a reliable car but the more reviews I have read as proved us all wrong. I will not stop until all the issues with their cars are made public. If you are with me, then please add yourselves. I don’t know about you but I hate being ripped off. ” It’s no joke when your Hyundai is broke ” have your say & see if we can get some Justice, instead of lies they tell us.

Same problem with our car too ;(

  • Stanley

There seems to be an Intermittent clutch thrust bearing noise coming from my Hyundai i30. It has been happening on and off for the past few weeks now, and so I know that it is not going away. Does anyone know if the will be covered under my warranty, which I had purchased separately?

  • Megan

I’m starting to wonder if Hyundai will issue a recall for their 2013 Elantra models, as they have already done so in the US? What makes our models so different to theirs, as surely they use the same components to make the brake pedal stopper?

  • John Mitchell

My drivers seat keeps reclining when in driving it is a 2015 model does anyone else have the same problem

  • Lenny

The 4×4 system on my 2003 Hyundai Terracan no longer works. I’ve been told that it is a faulty switch, but have been having issues locating one – does anyone know where I could get one of these from?

  • Thalia Panaretou

My 2015 Hyundai i30 only has 13500 miles on it and I’ve had it under 7 months. Yesterday it started making a funny noise so took it to a reputable garage who said it sounded like the clutch release bearing. I was convinced by the mechanics to phone and see if it’s covered under warranty as they said it should not need replaced and is certainly not down to driving style. Hyundai dealership and hyundai uk have said the only way they can determine if it’s a manufacturing fault is if it’s worked on with the gear box having to be removed. I was getting nowhere with them as they were adamant that it’s more than likely down to driver style. I’m really unimpressed as I bought this car because it was meant to be reliable. I never thought I’d need to replace a part so expensive this soon, especially seeing it has three years left on its warranty. I don’t think I’ll buy another hyundai after this.

I’ve just bought a used ix35 2013 plate 60 k on the clock . When reversing , the clutch is making a really loud noise and there is burning smell coming from it .( nothing to do with driving style or over use of clutch ) local mechanics cannot find any mechanical faults . And said it is due to the size of car .has any one else experienced the same problems ?

  • John Blackwood

I,ve had my i30 for 7 years only done 28000miles two problems (1) Engine cut out whenever I hit a bump on the road it was the a loose connection.(2) Put it in for mot today told had a broken spring o s front according
to the mechanic he told me it must have happened on the way up to the garage. Yes you will say I am lucky but had the sprig hit my tier it may have different. Would I by another the answer yes but at 72 years old I will keep old faithful for the rest off my days. THEY ARE GOOD CARS SERVICE THEM REGULAR SHOULD HAVE NO dealership are good at what they do that’s my secret get the right one from the start. (Happy Motoring)

I had the same problem when reversing my i30 that I bought back in 2010, but it turned out that I had to have the gear box changed. My car has had 7 recalls with different things, but is okay now. Not sure if anyone elses car sounds like mine, but I have a petrol car that sounds like a diesel? it is not causing any problems just sounds different to other Hyundia cars I have had to drive when my own car was recalled.
