SMART engine failure for older models
There seems to be a growing number of people that are having problems with the engines in their SMART cars, and so we thought we would highlight that issue for those of you thinking of buying one of these older models. Mercedes have made some massive changes, which we know about having test drove one for a week, and so there are no longer these issues.
However, if you are in the market for let’s say a 2009-2011 SMART car, then there are a few things you might want to look out for so that you do not get a nasty surprise.
Make certain that you check the oil level, and then place some cardboard under the car while you are looking over it. The owner might say something, but at the end of the day, it is you that is parting with the money.
We have heard of people doing this, and found oil dripping from several areas, and so there is clearly an issue. Now, it could be coming from just one point, and ending up looking as though there are multiple leaks.
You need to also check for smoke coming from the exhaust, as this is another issue with the older models. Some of the common problems that cause this are the Top Breather Pipe, Oil Control Rings, Valve Stem Seals, or even the Turbo.
While there is no recall on these vehicles, we thought you should know these things before considering in buying one.
