UK Hyundai i40 owner concern over US sunroof recall

Hyundai is having to recall its 2015-2016 Hyundai Sonata and Sonata Hybrid models, but only those with the panoramic sunroofs becasue there is a concern they could actually become detached while driving. While this recall only covers the United States for now, UK Hyundai i40 owners are feeling a little concerned, seeing as though this is the UK equivalent of the Sonata.

This is something that we will have to keep an eye on, but this does seem to be a bonding issue that is specific to the production facility where the vehicle was built, and so owners in the UK should really have nothing to worry about.

In regards to the recall that is taking place in the US, this involves the 2015-2016 models and there are 62,811 cars being recalled in all.

The actual problem is that the panoramic sunroof version comes with a wind deflector, which has an anchor to hold it in place. Where, the bonding used could fail, and so could lead to it becoming partially detached, which is a safety risk – especially if travelling at speed.
